The Purdue football program had been holding out hope that there would be a happy ending in the search for missing running back Sean Matti. In a heartbreaking punch to the gut, that’s not the case.
WISH-TV in Indianapolis is reporting that Matti’s body was recovered from Lake Freeman Tuesday morning. Matti was just 22 years old.
Matti, who would have been a fifth-year senior, was last seen swimming in the lake around 5 p.m. local time Sunday. He was reported missing roughly six hours later.
There has been no cause of death released as of yet, nor has the university issued a statement on the player’s passing.
Matti has been a part of the Boilermakers program since 2007 as a walk-on.
Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to Matti’s family, friends, teammates, coaches and anyone else impacted by this terrible tragedy.
