NCAA set to announce findings of investigation into Georgia Tech

Wait, what?!?

In a story that comes completely out of the blue and has flown well below the media’s radar, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that the NCAA will announce its findings stemming from an investigation into the Georgia Tech football program. The announcement is expected to come at 3 p.m. ET Thursday.

It’s unknown what the specific violations are, but they reportedly occurred over the past several years. On Twitter, however, Zach Klein of WSB-TV in Atlanta writes that “source says NCAA Probe has, in part, to do with Bay Bay Thomas and Morgan Burnett receiving gifts. (Shirt & Watch)”

The Tech program was hit with sanctions that were enforced during the 2005 and 2006 seasons -- mainly scholarship reductions and limiting the size of the two recruiting classes -- for playing more than a dozen academically ineligible players in the late nineties.

What this latest NCAA issue involves remains to be seen.

UPDATED 2:59 p.m. ET: First hinted at by Zach Klein, and later confirmed by Brett McMurphy of CBS Sports.com, it appears that Tech will be forced to vacate their 2009 ACC title, as well as other wins during that season, as part of the NCAA sanctions.
