TMZ catches USC running back Marc Tyler having a, um, ‘good time’

USC Oregon St Football

We’ve been called the TMZ of college football before here at CFT. And, I suppose in some ways, that’s true. Although I am pleased to announce that we’ve yet to have a Miley Cyrus reference on here (until now).

However, it appears USC running back Marc Tyler has successfully crossed over into the mainstream tabloids by actually landing his face on TMZ’s website, and as you could imagine, the results aren’t good. Tyler makes references to “gettin’ Kim Kardashian” and athletes making more money at USC than in the pros.

A friend then interjected with “That’s a joke”, but the damage was done.

To view the semi-grainy, fully-inappropriate and annoyingly commentated video, click HERE.

The site claims Tyler is intoxicated; we’ll let you be the judge of that. But it’s not important if Tyler was drunk or not. What Tyler said wasn’t even the worst part. It’s where he said it: in front of the camera.

Athletes need to constantly remember that media platforms have changed dramatically, and everything they say and do is monitored with incredible scrutiny.

On top of it all, Tyler is still waiting to hear the disciplinary results following a pair of off-the-field incidents this past spring.

This could add to that forthcoming discipline, which could very well be more severe now.

(Thanks to the Orange County Register for the tip-off)

Let’s face it, these guys aren’t known for their intelligence or discretion.

    What a dumb move.

Next time Marc, make sure the round is chambered before you pull the trigger.
    It would be less painful.

What an absolute idiot. On the bright side for me, at least it’s a reminder the James Harrison interview could have been worse.

Obviously Tyler isn’t taking his disciplinary situation seriously. I hope USC and the NCAA watch this footage and make him feel the pain. Sorry … my tolerance for this kind of crap has maxed out.

Does “gettin’ Kim Kardashian” imply he poked her? I sure as shit wouldn’t be bragging about that on TV.

Deb said: ” Sorry … my tolerance for this kind of crap has maxed out.” Deb, you couldn’t have hit the nail on the head more accurately; except, this is just one example, though, of the many “insane idots” being recruited at colleges and universities all over the country these days. Will coaches ever wise-up and commit more sensible talent for their teams? Probably not in my lifetime. Better just get used to it and concede to the fact that this wasn’t the 1st stupid thing we’ve ever seen & heard, and it certainly won’t be the last. I would be interested, however, in knowing if he was old enough to drink and who was driving the car. If both those answers go “against” him, THEN my tolerance level has ended & USC better ‘kick him to the curb (star running back or not)! It’ll be interesting to see how this gets handled in the end.

Dude, in this instance you are talking about Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron…

USC is just asking for it with those jokers.

“Athletes need to constantly remember that media platforms have changed dramatically, and everything they say and do is monitored with incredible scrutiny.”

So you’re basically sayin you’re no different than those tabloids who make a living by living vicariously through celebrities.

What an easy job you have.

USC was feeling slighted with all of the negative press going to OSU as of late. I am sure that Kiffy is quite proud!

  13. Ben Kercheval says: Jul 16, 2011 10:43 PM

I don’t live vicariously through anybody, whatswiththehate.

I’m saying we live in a 24/7, instant content platform where everything is digested by fans and media alike instantly. If you somehow think that’s not true, or that you’re exempt from that norm, then let me know because I’m all ears.

Point well taken, pricecube…I agree with you: USC with Kiffin & Friends will hand USC a major blunder one day very soon (we can all count on that). However, if you looked just a little further back in my response, you’ll see my focus was far more ‘generalized’ rather than just looking at this individual:

“…this is just one example, though, of the many “insane idots” being recruited at colleges and universities all over the country these days.”

Granted, this article addresses one such idiot…so forgive me if I steered you & others away from making generalizations. I hope you have noticed, though, that likenesses of him can be found just about everywhere…just look at all the bad attitudes & disrespect by athletes toward their coaches and schools, not following teamrules, arrests and subsequent suspensions that are skyrocketing (not just for misdemeanors, but serious felonies as well).

The above drunken tirade (although embarassing in its media scrutiny) is miniscule compared to what is happening all over the country. Taking a good look at recruits before committting them will help a lot…at USC & everywhere. I understand, though, that telling Kiffin this could be a major task in itself.

But, yes, I agree 100% with you. Maybe taking a good look at potential coaches 1st is called for here.

    Thanks for your input, pricecube!

USC jokes are played out fellas.

But on the real, someone in Eugene with a camera phone needs to find a drunken Darron Thomas or LaMichael James so that we can finally put their “recruiting genius” to rest.

  16. addict2sport says: Jul 17, 2011 7:23 AM

You mean to tell me USC, with Kiffin and Coach O on staff, is the only institution with student athletes that drink too much and say dumbass things? No, but TMZ isn’t hanging out at Applebees so we aren’t going to hear kids places not located near a Hollywood club. Did the kid come off as a total jackass who deserves some type of punishment for embarrassing their university? No doubt. But, no reason to turn this into a USC thing. This could’ve been a kid from any school in the country.

People with self-respect, taste, and/or an intense fear of STDs.

goforthanddie: Well stated, succinct, and to the point! Cudos!
