Ex-UF signee’s waiver denied, will not play for Auburn in 2011

When last we heard from Mike Blakely, the former Florida signee who transferred to Auburn was hoping to receive a waiver from the NCAA that would permit him to play immediately for the Tigers.

As expected, however, that request has been summarily dismissed.

By way of Evan Woodbury of the Mobile Press-Register... and Birmingham News... and Huntsville Times, Blakely took to Twitter Wednesday to announce the NCAA’s decision on his request for a waiver:

It’s unclear whether Auburn will appeal this decision.

Blakely enrolled early at UF but never practiced with the Gators during the spring sessions as a shoulder issue derailed those plans. He did, however, attend classes, during his time at UF, which made the decision to seek a waiver head-scratching to say the least.

In early May, Blakely requested and received a release from his UF scholarship, and visited USF before deciding on Auburn as his next collegiate destination.

Rivals.com had Blakely rated as the No. 6 RB in the country for the 2011 recruiting class.
