UCF’s starting QB hit with minor legal beef

Jeff Godfrey

Very, very minor, actually.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, UCF starting quarterback Jeff Godfrey was arrested late Saturday night and charged with — move over, Caponedriving on a suspended license.

Godfrey was pulled over on campus over the weekend after UCF police determined that the tint on his window might be illegal.  It was subsequently discovered that Godfrey’s license had been suspended for failing to pay a handful of traffic fines.  Additionally, his license had expired back in May.

Head coach George O’Leary, through a school spokesperson, told the Sentinel that the school is “aware of the situation and has spoken with Jeff in regards to correcting his driver license status.”

Godfrey started the last 12 games of the 2010 season as a true freshman, and ending up finishing 15th in the country in passing efficiency.

Maybe he had better things to do than to stand in line for hours at the DMV to get his license renewed? Last time I was there I experienced why we should not have the government take over health care or much of anything.

Did Godfrey also violate page 2716, paragraph 8, line 6 of the NCAA Rules & Regs book? (pardon me if I got the line wrong, my eyes are going with all the tiny print)

Coach O’Leary and his staff will see that Godfrey pays those tickets and gets back in good standing. They will need him a just a few more weeks.

Yeah, we wouldn’t want him spending a few minutes doing it ONLINE either I suppose. Or he could always make an appointment, to avoid standing in line for hours. But he’s a college football player, he’s much too important to do that.

gofothanddie: FYI: Not all drivers can renew via Internet. Some like our neighbors and sister had to go into the DMV office. I know…I read their notice and drove them to the DMV. This is a minor offense and our posting was written with sarcastic humor which apparently went by you.

Maybe O’Leary will establish a new office, similar to the office of compliance with NCAA regs, as the office of legal compliance and those officers can assist the players in getting their license renewed, a new tag for their jag (or prius), (some posters would comment “and in addition be reminded of their court dates and times”, but we are not bigoted against the South since we were born and raised and choose to live in the South!).
