LB Newsome likely on the outs at Ohio State

Ever since he missed most of spring practice due to academic issues, it’s been rumored Jonathan Newsome (pictured, No. 55) could very well be on the outside of the Ohio State football program looking in for this season and beyond.

If a current roster and his former high school coach can be taken as gospel, that appears to be very much the case ahead of the start of summer camp.

The Columbus Dispatch noted Wednesday that Newsome’s name doesn’t appear on the latest Buckeyes’ roster, prompting a school spokesperson to tell the paper that “I think that would be an indication of his status for this fall.”

Newsome’s high school coach, Cleveland (Oh.) Glenville’s Ted Ginn Sr., told the Dispatch that Newsome plans to transfer, although he was enrolled in classes at OSU. It’s unclear where the linebacker will land if he does indeed decide to transfer.

Newsome was a three-star member of OSU’s 2009 recruiting class. He played in 13 games last season.
