On Thursday, both an updated roster and his former high school coach indicated that Jonathan Newsome could very well be on his way out of the Ohio State football program.

Friday, the linebacker confirmed as much via a social media website.

On his Twitter feed this evening, Newsome indicated that he will be leaving the Buckeyes and will transfer to Ball State.  Later in his Twitter timeline, Newsome wrote that “Its a long story but i need a fresh start“.

The school has yet confirm Newsome’s status with the program.  ball State has yet to confirm the move as well.

In order to satisfy NCAA transfer rules, Newsome would be required to sit out the 2011 season if the move does indeed come to fruition.  Beginning in 2012, he would have two years of eligibility remaining.

Newsome was a three-star member of OSU’s 2009 recruiting class.  He played in 13 games last season.

Just too far down on the Buckeye depth chart. He gave the starters a rest, but not much more.
    Academics were an issue.

After sitting out the ‘transfer year’, he’ll probably be much more productive at Ball State. Let’s hope he takes the year to focus on the academic deal.

He’s a very solid player. Could Prob start for a few other big ten schools. (IU, Minn, purdue) wish him the best in Muncie. hit the books boy!

If he was not a prime time player, OSU would not have taken him in. I’m tired of OSU fans always suggesting when a kid leaves the program or when high on their recruit list goes elsewhere, that they didn’t really aggressively pursue him or he wasn’t the right fit.

Calm down 100f14. Facts are facts and no one said the kid wasn’t agressively recruited/pursued by OSU.

Both posters before you said the kid was solid, but was down on the depth chart and had to get his grades up.

After that, they both wished the kid good luck.

Your hate for OSU is hindering your ability to form rational thoughts. I’m sorry someone slapped your mother in the face with an officially licensed OSU jocky-strap.

Not an OSU fan myself but some people just take joy in anything negative happening to OSU. The kid was not a starter so calm down.
