What has been an otherwise relatively quiet weekend is that no more, with a report surfacing that a starting member of the Syracuse football program is facing some fairly serious and significant legal issues.
According to the Syracuse Post-Standard, wide receiver Marcus Sales is facing a slew of drug-related charges following a traffic stop Friday night. Sales, along with his brother, were charged with fifth- and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of marijuana.
Sales was the driver of a vehicle which police observed running a red light, leading to the on-campus traffic stop.Police found three knotted pieces of plastic containing a green plant-like substance that tested positive for marijuana, a plastic baggie containing 180 Lortab (hydrocodone and acetaminophen) tablets, three digital scales, a plastic cup with gin and other baggies with devil, superman and pit bull insignias on them.

Marcus Sales had $250 in cash in his possession and Michael Sales Jr. had $747 in cash, police reported.
“We are aware of the charges against Marcus Sales,” head coach Doug Marrone said in a statement. “We will continue to work with the proper authorities and the university, and will handle the matter internally, according to university and Athletics Department policies.”
Sales finished last season with 26 receptions for 414 yards and four touchdowns. He has/had been penciled in as the starter entering summer camp, although his future as a member of the program is certainly very much up in the air.
