Heisman push already starting for Northwestern’s Dan Persa

We’re coming up on just one short month away from the start of the college football season (oops, wet myself just a bit), which can only mean three things:

1. More arrests as athletes combine summer time with a zero-structure environment.

2. Preseason conference guesses predictions (stay tuned for those coming this week)

3. Individual preseason accolades and hype.

For Northwestern quarterback Dan Persa, this would fall into the third category, as two billboards promoting Persa’s “Heisman campaign” have been purchased and are expected to to be up in the near future.

One billboard will be in Chicago, the major media market right down the road from Evanston, with the other in Bristol, Connecticut. Yep, home of ESPN.

The campaign is titled “Persa Strong”, after ESPN’s Bruce Feldman (#brucefreed) named Persa the 10th-strongest player in the country in a previous column.

I like Persa and I think he’s a great quarterback, but for what it’s worth, his Heisman odds are currently 95/1 courtesy of Bodog.com.

Will the billboards help? Maybe, but Persa will have to stay healthy and put up some video game numbers along the way.
