Hokies to be sans starting lineman for at least a month

For the past three years, Blake DeChristopher has been a fixture on the outside of Virginia Tech’s offensive line. Whether he’s there for the start of a fourth season, however, remains to be seen.

In a press release, the Hokies announced that the right tackle has suffered a strained left pectoral muscle recently, although when and how the injury happened were not divulged. According to the release, DeChristopher will be sidelined for a period of 4-6 weeks.

The short end of that prognosis could portend a return for the season opener Sept. 3; the long end of the time frame suggests that his availability for first two games could be in jeopardy.

DeChristopher has started 37 games the past three seasons, including all 14 games in 2010.
