Mizzou loses running back/kick returner indefinitely

It’s been a rocky start for Missouri for the start of preseason camp. Earlier today, we noted that JUCO transfer Sheldon Richardson was waiting for the NCAA to finish their eligibility check so he could practice with his team.

And while Richardson looks like he’s on track to be an addition to the Tigers in 2011, there’s now at least one player who may not be.

According to a couple Mizzou beat writers -- Dave Matter and Mike DeArmond, specifically -- hanging around during practice, running back and kick returner Marcus Murphy had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder. Head coach Gary Pinkell confirmed later that Murphy’s injury will result in a redshirt.

In all Murphy rushed 22 times for 181 yards and two touchdowns and was the team’s top kick returner.
