There was a brief scare in State College yesterday when a wide receiver collided with long-time coach Joe Paterno during practice. According to reports, Paterno was blindsided by receiver Devon Smith while watching the defense and suffered injuries to his pelvic and shoulder areas.
The injuries aren’t expected to require surgery, and according to the Associated Press, Paterno is should be released from the hospital later today.
The 84-year-old coach said after the accident that he is “doing fine” and will return to practice soon.
Joe’s son, Jay, PSU’s quarterbacks coach, tweeted this update at about 2 p.m. Tuesday:
“Saw Joe at the house this morning. Immediately started on practice,QBs, details & everything else….the man is relentless.”
Toughest. Octogenarian. Ever.
Odds are that Jay is let go 17 minutes after Joe retires. Surprised that Jay does not still live at home.
@ibijake your ignorance and jealousy are in stark contrast to Jay Paterno’s intelligence and loyalty.
@ lbijake
So wrong, but DAMN funny!!!!!!
Joe Paterno = Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones.
1) they look alike.
2) they sound alike.
3) neither can play guitar very well.
4) necroptic tissue rapidly overtaking both.
5) both fond of snacking on mothballs.
Should be an interesting year for both!
