WVU running back transferring due to lack of playing time

For the first time in quite a few years, West Virginia enters the season without a standout running back ready to shoulder the load of the Mountaineers’ ground game. And although the running back group is arguably the deepest in Dana Holgorsen‘s offense, there are few with any game experience.

Effective immediately, though, WVU will have one less back in that group.

According to WVMetroNews.com, redshirt sophomore Daquan Hargrett has decided to transfer from the program after seeing practically no playing time over the past two seasons.

He’s decided to move on,” Holgorsen said. “He came in and talked to me this morning and wants to play – he feels like he’s got a better opportunity to go somewhere else and play. I’m not sure where, but we’re going to work with him.

“He’s a good kid, a great kid and has done everything we’ve asked him to do. I’ll help him go wherever he wants to go so he can go play football.”

Hargrett was a three-star back out of Miami Northwestern High School who signed with the Mountaineers in 2009. After redshirting his first year, Hargrett quickly got buried in the running back depth chart. Despite a promising first couple of weeks of spring practice back in April, though, Hargrett once again fell behind true freshman Vernard Roberts and sophomore Trey Johnson in the “A Back” depth chart.
