Oregon State defensive tackle reinstated, suspended for opener

Following a May incident where he was hit with multiple charges for a domestic abuse incident, Oregon State defensive tackle Castro Masaniai was suspended by head coach Mike Riley. Starting today, Masaniai was re-instated to the Beavers, but will have to work his way back up to the top of the depth chart.

“I don’t know where he is physically or (what kind of) shape, so we’ll get him going and see what he can contribute. ... I think that line is coming on. I like the look of it right now so he’ll have to battle his way back in there,’' Riley said after practice. “I’m frankly glad he’s got a chance to finish his degree and play.’'

But Masaniai won’t get to play right away, the Associated Press writes that Masaniai has been suspended for the Beavers’ season-opening game against Sacramento State (I know, right?).

Will the junior play after that? It all depends on how he finishes up preseason camp.

“His fat butt needs to get in shape and get going. ... right now he’s so far down the depth chart,” said Oregon State defensive line coach Joe Seumalo. “I don’t know. ... I haven’t even seen him running the last couple days.’'

Brilliant.

(Big thanks to the Oregonian)
