Torn ACL sidelines Cal’s starting fullback

Eric Stevens

Penciled in as the starter at fullback entering summer camp, Eric Stevens can now officially erased from Cal’s plans for 2011.

As previously noted on this here site, the junior suffered a knee injury during practice on Wednesday, and an MRI performed later in the day revealed a torn ACL.  Obviously, Stevens will be sidelined for the entire 2011 season as he rehabs the injury.

Perhaps the worst part of the injury for Stevens was that it was of the non-contact variety.

It was one of those freak accidents,” Stevens said. “I just planted a little funny. I was a little off-balance and couldn’t catch myself.”

Stevens, who will be replaced in the starting lineup by Will Kapp, started five games last season, and actually had more yards receiving (27) than rushing (2).
