Pitt freshman collapses at practice, hospitalized

While the details are very scant at the moment, what appears to be a rather scary incident unfolded on Pittsburgh’s practice field Thursday.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, true freshman wide receiver Darius Patton collapsed at practice earlier today because of an unspecified medical condition. Patton was taken to a local emergency room, and will remain hospitalized overnight for observation.

Fortunately, based on head coach Todd Graham‘s post-practice comments, it appears Patton will be OK.

“He’s awake and alert and his vitals signs are very good,” coach Todd Graham said. “We are waiting for further information. We hope he is going to be fine. That’s all I really know. His vital signs were good and he was alert and responsive and he was doing fine.”

Patton was a three-star member of Pitt’s 2011 recruiting class out of Poland, Ohio.
