Ronnell Lewis returns to OU practice, future still uncertain

Oklahoma LB/DE Ronnell Lewis was back at practice on Monday after missing some time late last week to deal with what Bob Stoops ambiguously described as personal issues.

Inching closer to the start of the season, Stoops said Lewis’ return to the practice field doesn’t mean he’s in the clear to play against Tulsa.

So, for now, Stoops and OU are waiting it out.

“He’s still working with some family issues, or personal issues, that we’re all fully supportive that he needs to,” Stoops said. “Whenever anything is resolved, we’ll say so.”

Stoops, as has been his policy all along, wouldn’t comment further on the matter, even as it pertained to Lewis’ playing status.

Lewis was expected contribute to a linebacker group that has already tragically lost Austin Box and Travis Lewis for at least two months with a foot injury. Oklahoma has to travel to Florida State early in the season for a game that could have national title implications, so depth in all areas will be at a premium.

The junior is currently one of four Sooners to be stuck in preseason uncertainty, with the others being freshman receiver Trey Metoyer, and freshman DT’s Jordan Phillips and Jordan Wade.
