Not surprisingly, Doege named Texas Tech’s starting QB

Seth Doege exited spring practice in April as Texas Tech’s clear-cut No. 1 quarterback.

Exiting summer camp, Doege has maintained that stranglehold on the job.

Head coach Tommy Tuberville announced Monday afternoon that Doege, as expected, has been named as the Red Raiders starting quarterback. Doege had been in a “battle” for the job with, mainly, Jacob Karam.

“Seth Doege, right now, is going to be our starter,” Tuberville said. “Everybody pretty much knows that. That could change, depending on how he practices.

“We pretty much figured he’d be the guy that gets the reins early. But I want to keep the pressure on him and give the other guys a chance to throw their hat in the ring.”

Doege has played in two games last season in a backup role to starters Taylor Potts (no relation) and Steven Sheffield.
