Awesome: Michigan to open up ’14 season with Appalachian State

Seven years after getting embarrassed on their own turf to 1-AA opponent Appalachian State in what is arguably one of the greatest upsets in the history of college football, Michigan is going to give it another go.

According to the Detroit News, Michigan has scheduled another season-opening home game -- that’s right; same time, same place -- with the Mountaineers, who could be a 1-A opponent by that point.

We look forward to facing Appalachian State again,” Michigan AD David Brandon said, cracking his knuckles.

I imagine that the thought process for such a rematch is a lot like getting beat at a game of pickup basketball (or football) by someone much smaller and younger. You have to make sure they don’t go out on top, so you challenge that person to another game with the intent of destroying their hopes of even thinking they could pull that stunt twice.

And then pay them a hefty chunk of change.

Or, it could end up being a case of déjà vu and Michigan loses again to Appalachian State. If it’s the latter, I recommend the death penalty for the Wolverines.
