Pair of Gators OK after car accident

Two members of the Florida football team received a bit of a scare less than a week before the start of the 2011 season, WCTV-TV (redundant much?) is reporting.

According to the television television station station, UF offensive lineman Jon Halapio (pictured, No. 67) and defensive lineman Earl Okine were involved in what’s being described as a minor car accident Sunday in Madison, Fla. The station’s website writes that the vehicle in which the two were traveling “swerved off the road and into the median... [before the car] hit a few small trees and bushes.”

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Halapio’s girlfriend tweeted after the accident that a tire had blown out on the vehicle.

Neither player required medical attention, the station reported. UF subsequently confirmed that neither players sustained injuries.

Halapio, a junior, is the Gators’ No. 1 right guard after starting seven games last season; Okine, a redshirt junior, is a backup defensive tackle.
