Aftermath of Hurricane Irene delays UConn opener

And, no, not because of any structural damage to Rentschler Field; quite on the contrary, in fact.

According to a UConn press release, the Huskies’ season-opening game against Fordham (yay…) is looking to be moved to Saturday because the stadium “is currently being used by the Connecticut National Guard for use as a commodities distribution center to provide towns and cities of the state that are in need of essential supplies in the wake of Hurricane Irene.”

Tough to argue with that reason.

UConn, the defending Big East champions, are entering year one of the Paul Pasqualoni era after losing coach Randy Edsall to Maryland.
