Good stuff….but you did claim some sympathy for the U a while back….

UM is certainly not out of the dark, but all the previous stuff will have to be off of Shapiro alone. No way any player is gonna admit to anything with a convicted felon….the current players cooperated with the NCAA.

If there is no Yahoo hit piece, there would be no looking beyond 4 years….because as I said Shannon ran a tight ship, Shapiro was a rogue scum bag, Shannon got him out of the picture….he obviously is furious.

Looking forward to some college football….I have no beef with Penn State….good luck….win it for the Pa.

Where you get the idea that the NCAA has no reason to go back more than 4 years I cannot tell. The info is now out in the open, they are pretty much forced into it. Keep in mind that these suspensions are separate from what sanctions will be handed down.

And the bankruptcy subpoenas, you can forget about anything being swept under the rug.

My point about Shannon. You notice the guys on the list? Mostly Seniors from Shannon’s first class. There is no warrant in this crap for the NCAA to go past the statute of limitations of 4 years.

I said if there was anything it was minor….and looky looky…..8 with 1 game suspension, 3 with 4 games and 1 with 6games. All for a total of around 4k?!?! or something. If Shapiro doesn’t go all jailbird with yahoo none of this is even close to worthy of attention. Imagine if all the creepy rich boosters at all schools did tell alls?!?!?

So, it is Eight players who have to sit out ONE (1) game for accepting “gifts” from the infamous Shapiro booster. WOW, that is really being a hard ass, isn’t it Mr. NCAA?
Hey, I don’t care what color these kids are, or where they are from, but kids like this are ruining collegiate athletics! First, they hold notable universities up for everything and anything they can get, then they “decide” where they want to go.
I think without any doubt the violations cited by Mr. Shapiro, as part of a plea agreement with the federal prosecutors, are the absolute worst ever incurred by any college program!
Can you spell “death penalty”? Well, I hope the NCAA can! This kind of recruiting “blackmail” has to end. Miami University has been known for being a football factory, with the caliber of semi pro recruits and thugs they used as players. Their academic credibility was never in question, because they had NONE!
Now that the NCAA has played patty-cake with these 8 offenders, they better bring out the big guns for the University of Miami. Anything less than a total banishment from collegiate sports is unacceptable!
They are now and have been a disgrace to college recruiting for years and years, enabling other universities to believe “if they can, why can’t we?” NCAA show some balls, and do what is right!

You seem to forget that USC was already in trouble for their basketball program; hence, the lack of institutional control finding. It has nothing to do with any east-west bias. I was hoping that all 8 would be out for at least 3 games. If they were we could watch a record breaking event (New record = highest number of suspended players in 1 game. Miami 8 and OSU 5 for a total of 13).

The NCAA is so unjust!!! How could they punish these poor, helpless students who are probably exhausted from hours upon hours of studying for exams, writing essays, and…….wait……….you mean……….Really? No classes or academic work?…….So, UM athletes don’t actually….?…….oh God, I feel so betrayed. They seemed like such nice young men.

No wonder they can’t read the NCAA regs.

I was expecting 4 games per player. I’m ecstatic about this. Let’s see how the rest of it shakes out. I agree with cane300, that Pearl ruling could be a huge precedent in Miami’s favor. What worries me is if anyone left in compliance or administration knew about other. MD will be tough with our d line hurting. However. We can win. Go canes!

How are you saying that nothings happening? Why would the NCAA suspend players, 1 indefinitely, if there was nothing going on? This article only makes it worse, not better. It’s not overhyped if several starting players for Miami are going to miss 1-6 games, and 1 is basically done.

1 player is cleared, and yet 8 were caught? 1 out of 8 is not a good ratio. Convert that and you’re staring at 9 out of 72 are innocent. 63 guilty players is still a lot more than anyone else in recent years.

The U fans, please realize, I’m NOT hating, but come on guys. Things are not looking good if the NCAA already slammed a few players. 6 games is half a season for it to be nothing.

So now its ok to take benefits as long as it doesn’t exceed $100?? It would be nice to know the rational for figuring each suspension. They seem inconsistant from player to player. Is the suspension price about $200 per game?? Must have been some expensive tatoos in Columbus.

I am a Cane fan, read the article closely. The players received these benefits during the recruiting process and the involved coaching staff, so Miami will be hit but I think the NCAA is after the coaches also. None of them are still in Miami but are employed by Florida, Alabama, Louisville and Missouri. Now imagine if these coaches get the Bruce Pearl treatment are essentially banned from recruiting. How would this affect these schools? Also, look at the benefits they received, essentially food, drink, and lodging and no payments. Now I do believe that the U will lose scholarships and will have at least a 2 year bowl ban, but what makes this different is that the players told the truth and cooperated with the NCAA, no lies like Ohio St., no fighting everything like USC. It may seem unfair, but no one likes to be lied to, especially the NCAA!

Reread, or maybe just read, the article. These punishments are completely separate from what the university may (will) receive. It took how many years to punish USC for one guy, well UM is looking at punishment for up to 72 guys. These things take time.

Golden has to sit them down at least one game this season. That means he can choose the game and prepare for them sitting down far in advance. If he wants to sit them down more than one game, they are giving him that option? What is the chance Golden will sit them down 2 or 3 games? none.
