(Quick writer’s note: if that featured image of Bob Stoops looking at Austin Box‘s helmet doesn’t induce a lump in your throat, I don’t know what will)
Oklahoma players will look to honor former linebacker Austin Box this season by taking turns wearing Box’s No. 12 jersey. The first Sooner to wear the number will be fellow linebacker Tom Wort. Wort started the first nine games at middle linebacker for the Sooners last season.
According to a university press release, “Stoops has said that No. 12 will rotate among defensive players during the season. Earlier this week, he explained that quarterback Landry Jones, who wears No. 12 on offense, and linebacker Travis Lewis will play a significant role in the selection process.”
This is a great move by the Sooners to remember Box, who was tragically found dead in his home earlier this summer.
