Ankle injury to Ole Miss’ Bolden ‘didn’t look good’

With ineffective quarterback play likely to be the norm rather than the exception -- at least based on one game -- the last thing Ole Miss needs right now is to lose Brandon Bolden for an extended period of time.

Unfortunately, that very scenario appears to be very much in play.

The senior running back suffered an injury to his left ankle in the first half of the Rebels 14-13 loss to BYU and did not return. After the game, head coach Houston Nutt did not specify the severity of the injury, although he allowed that it “didn’t look good.”

The Jackson Clarion-Ledger wrote that the ankle could be fractured, which would place into serious doubt his availability for most of the remainder of the regular season. That thought was furthered by RebelGrove.com, which reported that the injury is likely season-ending.

Suffice to say, the loss of Bolden would be a huge blow to the Rebels. Bolden led the team with 976 yards and 14 touchdowns last season, and is one of the more underrated offensive players in the SEC.

As if that injury wasn’t bad enough, Bolden’s backup, Enrique Davis, was injured in the fourth quarter and did not return. The Rivals website notes that no one connected to the program seemed to think Davis’ injury was minor in nature.
