APFollowing victories by No. 24 West Virginia and No. 8 Texas A&M on Sunday, the ranked teams have officially put the first weekend of the 2011 season to bed. And, as expected, there were more than a couple of “upsets” involving schools sitting inside the preseason Top 25.
Arguably the biggest upset didn’t even play out on the first full day of the season, with No. 14 TCU falling to Baylor in Friday night’s thriller. Only one other ranked team fell to an unranked opponent, with No. 16 Notre Dame swiftly dropping from the ranks of the unbeaten thanks to the weather-delayed loss to USF.
As far as ranked-on-ranked crime goes, No. 4 LSU treated No. 3 Oregon like it was an early Friday morning at an off-campus bar, stepping on the Ducks’ throats and not easing up until the scoreboard read 40-27 – a score, incidentally, that wasn’t even remotely indicative of LSU’s dominance. While the Tigers were dishing out a good old-fashioned woodshedding, No. 18 Georgia was on the receiving end of one courtesy of No. 5 Boise State, with the Broncos clearly outclassing the Bulldogs 35-21.
As for the remainder of the Top 10, No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 2 Alabama, No. 6 Florida State, No. 7 Stanford, No. 9 Oklahoma State and No. 10 Nebraska all won their openers and won them impressively. How impressively? The combined score of those six games was 287-65.
So, with that out of the way, the question becomes: who ya got? Let your vote be heard below.
