UNC loses starting FB to season-ending injury

Devon Ramsay spent the first couple of months of this past offseason fighting to have his eligibility restored after it was permanently stripped for his role in North Carolina’s impermissible benefits mess.

While the fullback’s eligibility was ultimately restored, he unfortunately won’t be able to take advantage of it, at least not this season.

In a press release, UNC announced that Ramsey, the Tar Heels starter at fullback, will miss the remainder of the 2011 season after tearing the ACL and MCL in his left knee during the season-opening win over James Madison. Ramsay will undergo season-ending surgery next week to repair the damage.

The release states that the school will pursue a sixth-year of eligibility with the NCAA for Ramsay, who redshirted in 2007 with a shoulder injury.

Ramsay had one reception for 18 yards in the opener before suffering the injury.
