Bryce Brown still working to be K-State’s No. 1 back

Once the No. 1 overall recruit for the class of 2009 according to Rivals.com, former Tennessee and current Kansas State running back Bryce Brown is having a hard time living up to the high expectations.

At no time has that been more evident than today, when K-State coach Bill Snyder announced that Brown, just as he was for the Wildcats’ season-opener against Eastern Kentucky, would be the third-string running back going forward.

“I think for him, getting invested is probably the most significant thing for him,” Snyder said. “And I think he’s making some headway in that respect. I think he’s a little more into it. He missed a lot during the course of the summer, so there’s a lot of catching up for him to do.”

Brown carried the ball just three times for 16 yards against EKU, his last carry being a fumble. Ahead of Brown are sophomore John Hubert and JUCO transfer Angelo Pease.

And with a three point victory over a 1-AA opponent, the Wildcats could use any depth or support to the running game that they can get. The Big 12, as unstable as it is, has at least deep enough that KSU is not going bowling this year if they played like they did last Saturday.
