FSU WR Kenny Shaw leaves field on stretcher

Through just over one quarter, the primetime game between Oklahoma and Florida State has been a fast-tempo, hard-hitting, physical one.

And, unfortunately, that’s extended to what appears to be a very severe injury for Florida State wide receiver Kenny Shaw. Deep in Oklahoma territory, Shaw went over the middle to catch what likely would have been a touchdown pass from E.J. Manuel. Instead, Shaw took a double shot to the head as he was sandwiched between to Sooner defenders.

After several minutes on the ground, Shaw was carted off the field on a stretcher with his head/neck area secured. No diagnostics have been given yet, but it looks like doctors were taking precautions for a head injury.

We’ll keep you up to date the moment we know something more about Shaw’s injury. In the meantime, it’s a humble reminder how of how dangerous this game can really be.

UPDATED 10:12 p.m. ET: ESPN’s Tom Rinaldi reports that scans on Shaw’s head have returned negative and that Shaw has feeling in all of his extremities. Obviously, great news.
