Return for EJ Manuel gaining traction

Injured in the second half of a loss to Oklahoma Sept. 17, Florida State’s EJ Manuel missed the following week’s game -- a loss to Clemson -- with the shoulder separation.

Nearly three weeks after suffering the injury, and following a bye weekend, the Seminoles’ starting quarterback appears on track for a return this weekend.

Manuel participated fully for the third straight day of practice Wednesday. While head coach Jimbo Fisher did not say with any degree of certainty Manuel would start against Wake Forest, he did hint that, barring a setback, the redshirt junior should be under center for the ACC contest.

“He came out a little sore today, after having two good days, (but) after two minutes he worked right through it,” Fisher said in quotes distributed by the school. “I thought he threw the ball well. ...

“He seems to be ready. We’ll have to judge as we go. I don’t want to saying anything in particular until we get to that point.”

If Manuel is unable to go for the second straight game, redshirt freshman Clint Trickett would get the start again. Based on the optimism coming out of Tallahassee, however, that likely won’t happen.
