Anyone who’s here seeking an answer to the question of when LaMichael James may return, you’re going to be sorely disappointed.
On a conference call Sunday evening, head coach Chip Kelly discussed the status of the star Oregon running back and, well, did not say one way or the other whether James would be available this weekend.
“We’ll see how it goes this week,” he said. “I don’t have anything else besides that.”
James suffered a gruesome dislocated elbow early in the fourth quarter in a win over Cal last Thursday and has been receiving treatment for the injury ever since. Regardless of whether that treatment leads to an expedited return, Kelly said he’s not going to allow the Ducks to wallow in self-pity over an injury to one of the front-runners for the Heisman Trophy.
“Injuries happen in college football. … Every program in the country deals with them,” said Kelly. “It’s part of the game. I don’t think any coach can be down. It’s what we have to deal with. If a player’s out, a players out.”
That said, and despite Kelly having yet to rule James out, the Eugene Register Guard writes that, “realistically, he is likely out at least one week.”
