Clemson RB opts to leave the program

Unable to parlay an outstanding performance in the spring game into meaningful playing time during the season, Demont Buice has decided to leave the Clemson football program, the school announced Monday.

The running back will remain at the school through the end of the current semester before transferring to an unknown destination. Head coach Dabo Swinney said the pursuit of a school that could offer immediate playing time would be the redshirt freshman’s priority.

“We hate to see Demont leave our program,” said Swinney in a statement. “We were pleased with his progress, but he wants more immediate playing time so he will transfer at the end of the semester. We have granted him a release and wish him the best.”

After rushing for 102 yards in the spring game, Buice played mostly on special teams this year. He didn’t log a single carry during the 2011 season despite playing in five games.
