The injury running back Eric Stephens suffered in the loss to Texas A&M Saturday looked fairly serious at the time.
Unfortunately for both the player and the Red Raiders, it was.
In a release, the school announced the junior will miss the remainder of the 2011 season with a knee dislocation. Despite the season-ending nature of the injury, no surgery has been scheduled at this time.
That’s actually a good sign for Stephens as it suggests there is no ligament and tendon damage in the area and portends a swifter rehab period.
The bad news, though, is Tech will be without a back who was far and away their leading rusher. In five games, Stephens rushed for 570 yards and eight touchdowns; DeAndre Washington‘s 107 yards and two touchdowns are second on the team. Additionally, Stephens had 15 receptions out of the backfield, good for sixth overall on the Red Raiders.
