Beavers lose starting DT to broken leg

And the hits just keep on coming for Oregon State.

Losers of five of their first six games, the Beavers will now be forced to deal with the loss of one of their top defensive linemen as Mike Riley announced Sunday night that Castro Masaniai has a broken leg. The injury, suffered in the loss to BYU Saturday, will cost the starting defensive tackle the remainder of the season.

“It’s one of those unfortunate things that happen,” the head coach said. “You have to rely on someone stepping in and playing. You are always looking for guys to be prepared.”

Masaniai has started three games this season for the Beavers and has 1.5 tackles for loss and one sack. Masaniai was suspended for the season opener following an arrest back in May.

Andrew Seumalo is listed as the co-starter on the depth chart and will likely get the call this weekend, but OSU will continue to use at least a three-man rotation at the position.
