Ole Miss dismisses receiver

With already one suspension under his belt (last season’s Egg Bowl against Mississippi State for a DUI), Ole Miss wide receiver Melvin Harris has apparently given coach Houston Nutt all he can handle.

In his Monday press conference, Nutt announced that Harris has been dismissed from the team for reasons of which he did not specify.

“We have really tried to help him for three years and I don’t want to get all the way involved in everything or the scenario of this thing, but he will continue to go to school and hopefully get his life in order,” Nutt said. “He’ll probably transfer to a 1-AA school and finish it out. It’s just sad but I know this: We did everything we could to try to help him. I know that.”

Harris was having a relatively quiet and frustrating season to begin with, with only two catches for 21 yards and a touchdown. Harris also missed the first three games of the season due to injury, according to the Oxford Eagle; he had 30 catches for 408 yards and three scores last season.
