Washington QB: ‘This is what I’m getting paid for -- to play’

[/facepalm]

With all the allegations of improper benefits given to players over the past year, “pay-for-play” has become an ultra-sensitive term.

In an interview with reporters following Washington’s win over Colorado this past Saturday, Huskies quarterback Keith Price used it the wrong way.

When asked by Seattle Times reporter Steve Kelley if he was wide-eyed or nervous during the season, Price replied with “This is what I’m supposed to do. This is what I’m getting paid for -- to play.”

An awkward pause ensued before Kelley asked “You’re getting paid?”

“Scholarship money, scholarship money,” Price replied with a laugh. Whether it was genuine laugh or a nervous laugh, we’re not sure.

Either way, it’s a gaffe Price probably wishes he had back.
