ACC to Notre Dame: No partial membership for you!

There was a rumor circulating for the past couple of months (in conference realignment? Shocking.) that Notre Dame might abandon the Big East in all non-football sports and hop on to the ACC bandwagon, leaving football to still remain as an independent.

Even if there was any truth or interest at all from Notre Dame in doing so, ACC commissioner John Swofford just shot it down in a matter of a few seconds.

We’re an all-in, revenue-equal conference,” Swofford said during ACC basketball media day. “That’s very basic to us. That’s what works for us. ... I think going forward we will continue to consider equal revenue sharing and full membership or no membership (important) in our conference. I don’t see that changing. ”

Neither do we, if for nothing else asking Notre Dame to join a conference in football is, well, unrealistic to say the least. The Golden Domers have a sweet deal with the BCS and would only join a conference if that inclusion came into jeopardy. When the BCS votes in 2013 over membership, there’s no reason to believe Notre Dame won’t be part of the group.
