Another undefeated goes down as Texas Tech tops Oklahoma

Earlier tonight, a jaw-dropping finish between Wisconsin and Michigan State saw the Spartans knock off the undefeated Badgers on a last-second Hail Mary. Just a couple hours later, BCS chaos struck again in a slightly more decisive -- although not by much -- but nevertheless stunning fashion.

After an hour and a half rain delay, unranked Texas Tech laid the initial wood on No. 3 Oklahoma before hanging on to win 41-38. The upset snapped a 39-game win streak in Norman and was only the second home loss in the Bob Stoops era. TCU defeated OU in 2005 17-10.

With one conference loss, the Sooners will now go to Kansas State next week with the Wildcats being the undefeated team between the two. If anybody had that statement marked down before the season, you deserve a prize. K-State routed in-state rival Kansas today 59-21.

A Big 12 title is still in the cards for the Sooners, though. If OU wins out the rest of their games, they’ll be guaranteed to get back to the BCS. Getting back to the national championship will be harder, as OU now needs other teams to lose as well. Then again, the BCS computers seem to love the Big 12; a one-loss Oklahoma could make it into the national championship.

Which makes me wonder, again, why we have a system like the BCS in place which determines the two best teams through completely arbitrary methods.

Whining aside, tonight’s loss was a tough blow for Oklahoma, which looked like they had been sleepwalking the past couple of weeks. The Sooners have been able to turn it into high gear when needed, and there’s no denying their talent.

It just finally caught up with them tonight.
