Tide’s depth takes an injury hit

Jeff Scott, Alex Watkins

Ahead of their momentous matchup with LSU the weekend after next, Alabama learned its depth has taken a little bit of an injury hit.

In a release, the Tide confirmed that freshman offensive tackle Cyrus Kouandjio will miss the remainder of the season with a knee injury.  Head coach Nick Saban said Kouandjio will require surgery to repair the damage.

Additionally, senior linebacker Alex Watkins will likely be out for 2-3 weeks with a broken arm.  Both players suffered their injuries during Saturday’s win over Tennessee.

“Even though those two guys aren’t starters, they’re guys that have made a lot of contribution, especially to the depth of our team,” Saban said in a statement.

Kouandjio played in seven of eight games as a reserve at offensive tackle. Watkins has seen playing time in every game to this point and has 13 total tackles with one sack and a forced fumble.  He’s also a contributor on special teams.

Saban said it. Those players were not starters but contributed to the depth of Alabama’s team. We want Alabama to be full strength when they play LSU. We are sorry to learn of these injuries.

    Tigers Geaux!

I do not believe it will make a difference.

Alabama is the number one team. They will prove it shortly. The LSU mouth will not prevail.

@rajuncajun28- Pot calling, hello kettle, your black. Are you kidding me? So there aren’t any rednecks or hicks in Baton Rouge? You know over the past few days I have seen a ton of comments on sites like these from LSU fans and I have to say most of them have been very classy and intelligent. Then you run into idiots like rajuncajun who I would be ashamed to have representing my college football team. Yes I know Alabama has there fair share of idiotic fans too, every team does. I just think we should start calling these morons out on it.

Now about this injury, it does hurt Bama’s depth a little bit but I am pretty sure when Cyrus K or Alex Watkins came in the game Bama had already opened up a big lead. I am with you tigersgeaux. I hope LSU doesn’t lose those three players that were suspended so there is no questioning at the end of the game who the better team was. Despite what a lot of people from both sides are saying this is not going to be a blow out on either side of the ball. The only thing that I can predict for sure is it will be a game for the ages.
