UGA’s leading receiver officially ruled out for Florida game

Mark Richt didn’t sound overly optimistic earlier this week about Malcolm Mitchell‘s availability for the annual rivalry with Florida, telling reporters that the wide receiver was doubtful for the game.

Unfortunately, but not unexpectedly, Richt’s pessimism was warranted.

Mitchell did not travel with the team to Jacksonville and, thus, will not play against the Gators. Marlon Brown will likely start in Mitchell’s place again tomorrow.

In the win over Tennessee three weeks ago, Mitchell tweaked his hamstring and then did not play the following weekend against Vanderbilt in UGA’s fifth straight win. The Bulldogs were on their bye weekend last Saturday.

The freshman currently leads UGA with 25 receptions for 438 yards. He’s also third with three receiving touchdowns.
