Knee injury to Shipley doesn’t appear serious

Texas didn’t seem to be be missing freshman wide receiver Jaxon Shipley too much in the second half of last night’s game against Kansas. The Longhorns were already leading the Jayhawks 26-0 and went on to shutout KU 43-0 while racking up nearly 600 yards of offense to Kansas’ 46 (yep).

Still, the knee injury sustained by Shipley should have been enough cause of concern with a relatively tough remaining schedule that includes games against Texas Tech, Missouri, Kansas State, Texas A&M and Baylor. The Longhorns are going to need as many playmakers as possible in that final stretch and there’s no denying what Shipley can do for this young offense.

Fortunately for the Texas, Shipley shouldn’t miss any of those games.

We had good reports on both of those for early returns,” coach Mack Brown said of Shipley and defensive back Leroy Scott, who sustained a head injury last night.

Shipley injured his right knee in the second quarter when his foot got tangled with a KU defender, causing his leg to buckle. Shipley was able to walk off the field under his own power.

Shipley leads the Longhorns with 33 catches for 438 yards and three touchdowns.
