Apparently, Damarlo Belcher will not get the opportunity to become Indiana’s all-time leading receiver after all.
In a terse one-sentence press release, Hoosiers head coach Kevin Wilson announced that Belcher has been dismissed from the football program for violating unspecified team rules. It was announced less than 10 minutes before kickoff Saturday that Belcher had been suspended for the game against Northwestern. Upon further review, that suspension morphed into a dismissal.
Despite missing the past two games — he didn’t play Oct. 22 against Iowa due to injury — the senior still leads the Hoosiers in receptions with 25. Last season, Belcher led the Big Ten in catches (78).
He was three receptions away from breaking the school record for career catches (191), currently held by James Hardy.
As if the Belcher situation isn’t bad enough for the Hoosiers’ passing attack, Wilson also announced this evening that wide receiver Duwyce Wilson suffered a season-ending knee injury. Wilson’s 17 receptions are tied for third.
I don’t think the team could get any worse, even without the two of them. My Hoosiers are just awful this year…and that’s using the very low standards by which I judge Indiana football.
