APYeah, this story is as uncomfortably nauseating as the headline suggests.
According to the Patriot-News, former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky has been indicted by a Centre County (PA) grand jury on multiple sex abuse charges involving children. The charges, which stem from an investigation that lasted more than two years, include felony involuntary deviate sexual intercourse of someone under 16; aggravated indecent assault; indecent assault of someone under 16; indecent assault of someone under 13; and corruption of minors charge.
All told, Sandusky is facing 40 counts from incidents that allegedly occurred in 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2005. Sandusky retired from the Nittany Lions following the 1999 season, after which he began devoting his time to running a children’s charity he had founded in the area.
In a story from March of this year, when the grand jury investigation first came to the public light, the Patriot-News relayed a disturbing incident alleged to have occurred in May of 1998 in a locker room located in the PSU football building and involved the alleged inappropriate contact of a 12-year-old boy by Sandusky.
According to several sources, that boy, who was 12 at the time, alleged he and Sandusky were showering in the football building on Penn State’s campus when the incident took place.
The boy’s mother told The Patriot-News she was specifically instructed by state police at Rockview not to speak with a reporter. Her name is being withheld by The Patriot-News to protect the identity of her son.
…
According to sources close to the investigation, the boy told police in 1998 that Sandusky had showered with him in a locker room of the Lasch Building — home to the football program — during a tour. The boy claimed Sandusky washed his body during the shower, sources said.
It’s unclear if that alleged incident led to any of the charges Sandusky is currently facing, although the paper noted at the time that those allegations had not led to any charges.
In January of this year, legendary Nittany Lions head coach Joe Paterno and athletic director Tim Curley were among the PSU officials called to testify in front of the grand jury regarding the case against the former coach. The allegations against Sandusky surfaced two years prior to those appearances by PSU officials, with a 15-year-old high school student accusing Sandusky of touching him inappropriately while the two were alone in a high school gym. Sandusky was an assistant football coach at Central Mountain (PA) High School at the time.
One final note on this sad tale: the title of Sandusky’s autobiography, published in 2000, is “Touched: The Jerry Sandusky Story”. No, seriously. It is.
Wow, terrible story and to think he very nearly became the head coach of PSU when they were trying to force JoePa to retire in the late ’90′s.
Makes me what to puke… and fight.
Scum
I’m sick to my stomach.
There is a special place in hell for pedophiles, and I hope he finds a seat.
Ditto. No place in hell hot enough for this creep.
“Touched” by Jerry Sandusky:o)
I have been touched reading this article.
Sick! If he’s found guilty of the charges, he’ll be touched by Brutus and Elmo in more ways than he ever thought.
Amazing – not even tried and convicted yet, and you folks have already found him guilty.
Losers!
As much as I loathe PSUcks fans & their overrated importance to college football. I hope these charges against Sandusky are fabricated, he has done great things with his charity The Second Mile. Like most fans out there this makes me sick…
If its true i wont be surprised at all cause anyone who knows better knows PSU runs a scumbag football program. There is a good reason why they lead everyone in arrests since “99, i expect this to just be the tip of the iceberg too
Jerry’s a naughty naughty boy!
Innocent until proven guilty. That being said, if he IS found guilty he should have his throat slit.
This is a sick sick story!!! As a father of two teenager and a four year old it makes me disgusted that evil can hide behind so many mask.
I just hope that these charges are found fabicated and as for dirtyharry1971′s comment… That’s just plain Stupid!!!!! Why would you drag the whole program in the mud just because of one individual’s allege misdoing?
dirty harry, here’s a nickel. Go buy a clue.
I have seen people gunned down by the cops for much less.
I love being a member of a nation of 300 million victims. To join the club just accuse anyone of something and it is automatically true. We don’t need no stinking juries anymore. If we accuse you it must be true. Oh yeah, someone send me a big fat check. I get very tired of accusing everyone of anything. I will never work as long as I can accuse someone, The media supports me. Congress supports me. Every victim’s rights group support me. Jeepers, guys, nobody ever lies. If I say you victimized me it is by definition true. Ask anyone. Right?
Aside from the despicable and angering allegations against Sandusky (which have to bear some truth, otherwise they wouldn’t be out there after all these years), the issue here for PSU and their fans to be concerned with is a potential cover-up by AD Tim Curley.
This could be just as bad in nature, but 10x worse for the program.
“…Then-Centre County District Attorney Michael Madeira transferred the case to then-state Attorney General Tom Corbett in March 2009. Corbett, now governor, declined comment through his spokesman.”
Wow, this cover-up goes all the way to the Pennsylvania Governor’s office.
