Brantley, Rainey should be good to go against South Carolina

Florida should head into this Saturday’s game at South Carolina a healthier on the offensive side of the ball than the Gamecocks -- mainly in the backfield.

Gators quarterback John Brantley is expected to play after hurting his arm during last weekend’s win over Vanderbilt. Brantley had previously missed time this season as he recovered from an ankle injury he sustained in a game against Alabama.

“He’s fine. He just got a funny hit on it,” said Florida coach Will Muschamp. “He probably could have gone back in. I told him just sit down we’ll let Jacoby finish it. It was just one of those things, a funny injury, nothing serious at all.”

Also, running back Chris Rainey should be good to go against the Gamecocks after missing the game against the Commodores. Rainey had been listed as probable for the game, suited up, but did not play.

Both Brantley and Rainey missed practice Monday, but are expected to return to practice tomorrow.

South Carolina, on the other hand, could be without quarterback Connor Shaw. Shaw was on the receiving end of a hit against Arkansas that knocked him out with a concussion. The Gamecocks are already without running back Marcus Lattimore, who is gone for the year with torn ligaments in his knee, and former quarterback Stephen Garcia. Garcia was dismissed from the team last month after he reportedly failed an alcohol test.
