Report: Sandusky’s charges could extend to Texas

Jerry Sandusky AP

The numerous counts of child sex charges against former Penn State defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky could extend beyond the state of Pennsylvania.

In the 23-page grand jury indictment of Sandusky, “Victim 4″ alleges he was assaulted by Sandusky during the trip for the 1999 Alamo Bowl. That game, of course, would be Sandusky’s last with Penn State — a 24-0 shutout win over Texas A&M (pictured). According to the indictment, Victim 4 was listed as a member of Sandusky’s family party on trips to the 1998 Outback Bowl and 1998 Alamo Bowl, as Victim 4 had become “a fixture in the Sandusky household.”

Victim 4 alleges that when he resisted advances by Sandusky in Texas, that Sandusky threatened to send him home from the bowl. Victim 4 was also told by an “emotionally upset” Sandusky that the defensive coordinator would not be the successor to Joe Paterno in May of 1999, but was informed to keep it a secret.

Now, Sandusky could be facing criminal charges in San Antonio, according to an official police statement sent to 1200 WOAI.

“We are investigating the possibility that an offense may have happened while here in San Antonio,” Police Sgt. Chris Benaviedes wrote.

“All we have is an allegation contained in a an indictment from another jurisdiction,” added Bexar County First Assistant District Attorney Cliff Herberg. “We have no evidence, no complainant yet,” he told reporter Michael Board. “It’s a preliminary inquiry.

“Obviously, in something like this, when (District Attorney Susan) Reed heard about it, she and the police chief were very concerned about it. We are going to taking what action we can to see if a case can be built.”

Hell can’t come soon enough for this monster.

Yo, Ben. I really don’t appreciate your attempt at misleading people into thinking you meant the University of Texas. This is a college football blog. Whenever you use the word “Texas” people are going to assume you meant the university. It’s kind of irresponsible to phrase things the way you did and make people think you meant UT. But you did that on purpose to get peoples’ attention, didn’t you? Shameful.

What’s the over-under on the number of states in which Sandusky will be convicted of child molestation? I would conservatively place it around 4.

  4. giablommi says: Nov 10, 2011 6:50 PM

There’s no reason for him to ever face trial in TX. No reason he should have been given $100k bail either as he’s a clear flight risk, no more boys for him to prey on, what else does he have to live for? But that’s another story.

Put this to trial and pick a jury NOW, while there’s still some prospective jurors who may not have yet be tainted by the overwhelming media coverage (Amish perhaps?), put him on trial immediately, and if he is convicted (can’t imagine an 18 month grand jury wouldn’t have brought 40 counts if evidence wasn’t overwhelming), send him away so he can face his demise via prison justice.

No reason this creep should see 2012.

    centexhorn,

I assure you there was no intent to mislead.

    @ centex

I assumed he meant the state of Texas, and I turned out to be right.

I can see the arrogance of horns fans that turns off so many others in and around that area.

If you were any kind of decent person you would be concerned about these victims and their families. Instead you are upset because you think the headline implies a game took place at your previous school.

    Shameful.

Yo, centexhorn. I didn’t think of the University of Texas until I saw your comment. Maybe it’s different in Texas but I think for most of the other 49 states, we read that Texas means the state, not the university.

    Pray for the victims.

I hope the people of Texas get to try him, that’s about as much of a “no nonsense” state as we have left in the union.

    God Bless Texas!

    centexhorn,

Contrary to your beliefs, the vast majority in the USA think Texas is a state, not a school.

    Texas : Please Prosecute

Pennsylvania put this monster back on the streets on 100k bail.

    The cover-up has begun.

    Two states without judicial systems:
    Pennsylvania and Rhode Island

Thanks to Attorney General Holder for ensuring that the civil rights of the Gitmo terrorists are protected.

We use lethal injection here in Texas. Sandusky may have screwed up in more ways than the once reported in the grand jury indictment.

Wait, that may be too good for this pervert.

He needs to go to jail and be someone’s “girlfriend” every night for the rest of his pathetic life. A death sentence is too easy. There is nothing bad enough that could happen to him. I pray every night for those boys.Absolute monster. Why is that coward McQuery still there?

hey centex horn – nobody’s talking or referring to your longhorns you arrogant, narcistic moron. steers and queers – no place but austin.

If this would have happened in the state of texas, sandusky would be hung by sunset

  17. warhawk04 says: Nov 10, 2011 9:23 PM

Hell is going to have a new defensive coordinator pretty soon.

  18. stockdogdca says: Nov 10, 2011 9:56 PM

It’s apparent that Sandusky manipulated these children so well that with approximately 40 victims and counting they were all too afraid to tell their parents what was going on. What a horrible institution.

  19. 187onsandusky says: Nov 10, 2011 10:19 PM

    stockdog

As far as any report is concerned there are 9 confirmed victims. The first 8 account for the 40 counts that you are attempting to reference.

I have no doubt there will be more, but it hasn’t come forth yet.

Do not pin this on the institution as a whole. This was isolated to a sick man and a few around him that decided to hide this rather than do the right thing. Power once again corrupted.

The good that PSU will be recognized again one day, just not any time soon. Especially if the idiotic students go all Vancouver again.

  20. lottsmissingfinger says: Nov 10, 2011 10:27 PM

Ben, don’t sweat it. I, along with most readers, didn’t assume you were referring to the university and I am one of those d-bags who went to UT.

    centexhorn, Chill.

lemmam, don’t call someone a moron without spell checking. It’s narcissistic not narcistic.

I take solace in the fact that the prisoners with the highest mortality rate are pedophiles. Even the most hardcore criminals know that there are actions for which there is no forgiveness.

  21. stevenfbrackett says: Nov 10, 2011 10:33 PM

If the charges that he traveled over state lines and abused one of his victims – that’s a federal offense and the FBI and DOJ will be on his case until he is in a federal prison.

  23. Deb says: Nov 10, 2011 11:57 PM

Oh, by all means, send him to Texas for trial. Their governor straps a laser-sighted gun to his arm and shoots coyotes on his morning jogs. I think those folks would take a mighty harsh view of child sexual abuse. Maybe they could strap Sandusky to a cactus and use him for target practice.

  24. frank booth says: Nov 11, 2011 5:45 AM

Deb- Were you talking about the state of Texas or the University of Texas?

  25. omniusprime says: Nov 11, 2011 9:07 AM

Sandusky deserves some serious prison time and hopefully he’ll be found guilty on all counts and have to spend the rest of his putrid life in prison for harming so many young disabled boys.

Joe Pa doesn’t deserve to be pitied as he showed no pity for the young disabled boys abused by his direct assistant. He should have followed up on this serious breach of law but he didn’t and he deserves to be vilified for his silence and lack of morals. He should be forced to vacate all wins from the date of the first sexual abuse incident, someone as disinterested in protecting disabled children should never be allowed to be the winningest coach in NCAA history.

Penn State deserves to be severely sanctioned by the NCAA. Considering the extremely harsh penalty USC received over what Reggie Bush did the NCAA had better disallow PS from going to bowls for 5 years and have their football scholarships reduced by 15 for 10 years. The NCAA had better send college institutions a very clear message that the kind of silence Penn State’s football program showed over this serious crime can never be tolerated. It’s time these institutions start acting like proper custodians of our youth instead of trying to protect the institution’s reputation over the welfare of kids.

I think Penn State should come up with a new school cheer – We are Perr Verts!

  26. psualum88 says: Nov 11, 2011 9:51 AM

As a Penn State alumnus I am not a pervert and remain proud of Penn State. Sandusky should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law if, as seems extremely likely, he is guilty of the heinous crimes against underage boys. All the other employees of the university that are found to have failed to properly act should be terminated as soon as possible and also face charges for violating any laws.

@omniusprime: Can you guarantee that there has never been a pedophile that graduated from your university?

I am sickened by this taint on my alma mater and the irreparable harm done to the victims. The focus needs to be on bringing justice to the criminals and removing those who failed to properly conduct themselves as high ranking members of the university.

BTW how will punishing students that are still part of the program accomplish anything? This needs to be handled by law enforcement, not a collegiate governing body.

  27. bosstown1 says: Nov 12, 2011 2:04 AM

lol no one cares about the big 12 idiot.

  28. txnative61 says: Nov 12, 2011 2:16 AM

Given the number of Sandusky style youth football programs in Texas and many other locales, I would think their efforts better directed to ensure similar abuse is not occurring in their own backyards. The publicity should serve to inspire and encourage this effort, as it is all too apparent coaches and administrators are reluctant to police themselves.
