Riddick won’t start, but should play for Irish vs. BC

An injury will likely keep Notre Dame’s third-leading receiver out of the starting lineup, but it shouldn’t keep him off the field entirely, head coach Brian Kelly said Wednesday.

Wide receiver Theo Riddick is suffering from a hamstring issue that kept the junior out of the win over Maryland Saturday. Kelly said that while starting the game has all but been ruled out, the Irish are optimistic Riddick can be utilized in some capacity against Boston College this weekend.

“Ran around today,” Kelly said yesterday when asked what Riddick did during practice earlier in the day. “I don’t think he’s going to be a guy that can come in and start for us. We’re hoping we can utilize him in a role and try to get him engaged in the game. We’ll continue to practice him, continue to work him out and see where we go from there.”

Riddick, who will again be replaced in the starting lineup by Robby Toma, is third on the Irish in receptions (34), receiving yards (362) and receiving touchdowns (three).
