Whenever Orwin Smith has gotten the ball in his hands this season for Georgia Tech, he’s averaged just over 13 yards per touch. Unfortunately for the Yellow Jackets, that explosive playmaking ability will likely be watching from the sidelines this weekend.
According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the A-back suffered an undisclosed injury during the loss to Virginia Tech last weekend and is doubtful for the Duke game Saturday. Additionally, head coach Paul Johnson, through gritted teeth no doubt, revealed during his radio show last night that Smith suffered an undisclosed injury in a moped accident recently as well.
While neither injury is thought to be serious, it appears highly unlikely Smith, who did not practice Wednesday, will see the field against the Blue Devils. A final decision on Smith’s availability will likely come later today, the school said in a release.
Smith has averaged 10.8 yards on his 53 attempts this season, and 23.8 yards per catch on his 12 receptions. Embry Peeples would likely get the start in Smith’s place.
