Northern Illinois to face Ohio in Friday night MACtion

Chandler Harnish, DeMarcus Grady, Scott Wedige

The first conference championship game of the 2011 season has been decided as Northern Illinois beat Eastern Michigan 18-12 today. The win gives the Huskies the MAC West crown and a game next Friday against MAC East division champion Ohio.

NIU’s critical game came at the beginning of this month in a wild 63-60 win over Toledo to give the Huskies the tiebreaker over the Rockets. Ohio secured their trip to Detroit on last week with a 29-28 win over Bowling Green.

Both teams have identical 9-3 records and have played in the MAC championship the last two years. Ohio lost to Central Michigan 20-10 in 2009 and Northern Illinois lost to Miami (OH) last season.

Correction, Ohio secured the bid with a win last week. The Miami game was meaningless.
It did keep Miami 0-6 against Ohio
