LSU, Bama stand atop BCS with just one week left

LSU and Alabama could very well be meeting again this season -- this time in the BCS national championship. With just one more BCS poll to be revealed next Sunday, the Tigers and the Tide stand at No. 1 and No. 2 and could make BCS history with a rematch of their Nov. 5 game.

Oklahoma State sits at No. 3 and in a pivotal position. The Cowboys have the best chance to prevent the SEC rematch, but something tells us they’ll have to have a big, big (did we mention big?) game against No. 10 Oklahoma next week in Bedlam to have a shot. That loss on the road to Iowa State may have been too much for the Pokes.

Stanford and Virginia Tech come in at No. 4 and No. 5 and are on the periphery of the national title picture. Undefeated Houston sits at No. 6 and will likely have to settle for a BCS at-large spot. Boise State comes in at No. 7 and Arkansas, who just lost to top-ranked LSU, falls to No. 8. Oregon and Oklahoma round out the top 10 spots.

TCU is at No. 18 and needs to move up two more spots to No. 16 if it’s going to gain an automatic berth into a BCS game if Houston was to lose. But, with No. 13 Michigan State playing No. 15 Wisconsin and No. 14 Georgia not expected to beat LSU, the Horned Frogs may have a chance yet.

West Virginia, Southern Miss and Missouri all enter the Top 25 after missing last week’s poll.
