UAB is not asking for a $75 million gift as the previous writer incorrectly asserts. First of all private money will provide the initial $15 Million. The remaining $60 million is borrowed through bond issue and to be repaid over 30 years. UAB currently pays rent in an 85 yr old city owned stadium in the ghetto and receives zero in revenues from naming rights, parking, concessions, pouring rights or renting the facility for concerts and other events. A smaller on campus stadium, with control over the revenue streams, allows UAB limited exposure to subsidy and will pay dividends to the campus community beyond the direct benefits.

UAB spent 9 months researching the proposal which intends to make money and at worst be revenue neutral. The UA slanted board behind closed doors took the matter off the public meeting agenda, in an attempt to kill it without public discussion.

At this board meeting, they projects included an $15 million on 2 UA frat houses, $8 million digital media center at UA’s Bryant-Denny Stadium, a $62 million dorm and a $24 million student center at UA, and a $12.5 million visual arts center and $15.8 million imaging center at UAB.

UAB’s attendance is similar to Troy’s, but with a much higher upside especially without having the worst coaches, facilities and years of losing records. Troy has not had a nearby football school pulling puppet strings in the background.
