No. 132 CB in the Class of 2012 commits to UCLA

And, yes, the sole reason you are reading about the No. 132 cornerback in the country giving a non-binding verbal commitment on this website is because of his surname.

New Rochelle, N.Y., defensive back Justin Combs, the son of Diddy/P. Diddy/Puff Daddy/Sean “Puffy” Combs, committed -- through a press release issued by a PR firm -- to play his college football with the Bruins. The verbal commitment by Justin Combs, a two-star prospect and the No. 132 CB in the Class of 2012 according to Scout.com, comes one day after it was officially announced that the man ultimately responsible for recruiting him, Rick Neuheisel, would not be the Bruins’ head coach beyond the 2011 season.

All of the uncertainty swirling around the coaching situation at UCLA seemed to matter little to Justin Combs, a two-star prospect and the No. 132 CB in the Class of 2012 according to Scout.com, who seemed ecstatic to be taking the next step in his football journey.

“Today I am truly blessed and thankful to accept my scholarship and give my full commitment to UCLA,” Justin Combs, a two-star prospect, said in a statement. “Playing Division I football was a lifelong dream of mine, and through hard work I was able to achieve it. I am a living testament that with a strong relationship with God, family, and hard work dreams do come true.”

Suffice to say, the mega-star father of Justin Combs, a two-star prospect and the No. 132 CB in the Class of 2012 according to Scout.com, was just as ecstatic as his son over the non-binding verbal commitment.

“As a parent, today is one of the proudest moments of my life,” the elder Combs said in his statement. “This is everything a father could want for his son, for him to excel at what he loves to do and is truly passionate about. Justin is a shining example of what hard work, determination and a strong mentality can achieve. I am honored to call him my son and am happy that he is fulfilling his dream.”

All sarcasm and snideness aside, and despite the fact that this is only being mentioned because of a famous surname, God bless a father showing that type of pride and that amount of love for his son. The world could use a whole helluva lot more of that, regardless of how many numbers to the left of the decimal point your bank account may or may not go.
